At the start of the hearing, the defendant pleaded not guilty to all charges brought against him.
For his part, Special Prosecutor Armend Zenelaj said in his opening statement that the trial would prove the truth of the allegations against Naskoviq.
According to him, Serbian forces executed civilians in the village of Zhegër on Naskoviq’s orders.
“It will be proven that Serbian forces, under the command of the accused, killed Albanian civilians in Zhegër on March 30, 1999. On April 30, 1999, they also took the lives of members of the Shabani and Hyseni families,” he stressed.
Naskoviq was arrested in September 2024 at the Dheu i Bardhë (Bela Zemlja) border crossing, while the formal indictment was filed in November 2025. His trial began in December of the same year at the Basic Court in Prishtina.
