Lushaku: Progress Report highlights repeated failures, government does not prioritize reforms

The findings of the European Commission’s Progress Report have prompted criticism of Kosovo’s institutions from Jehona Lushaku-Sadriu, head of the parliamentary group of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK). Speaking in the lobby of the Kosovo Assembly, she said unmet criteria and problems in various sectors continue to recur, despite the passage of many years.

Lushaku-Sadriu said the pace of European integration was insufficient and that the country was not making the necessary progress on the European agenda. She attributed the situation to a lack of seriousness on the part of the institutions and the current government, which, she said, does not prioritize European integration.

In her assessment of justice and security, she pointed to a justice system that does not function efficiently, as well as the killings of women and domestic violence. According to Lushaku-Sadriu, both are more prevalent than ever and reflect the state of security in the country.

Turning to the economy, the lawmaker cited stalled development, high inflation and citizens’ inability to afford their essential needs. Her criticism also extended to education, which she described as dysfunctional. She emphasized the lack of reforms in almost every area and the failure to move them forward.

Questioning whether there was any area in which Kosovo had received a good assessment, Lushaku-Sadriu said the country repeatedly faces the same unmet requirements. She argued that Kosovo is not only at the bottom and outside European agendas, but is also failing to progress in its own development as a state.

According to her, the current government’s lack of seriousness and its approach to the issue show that Kosovo’s European integration is not being treated as an essential goal.
