KPC and Ombudsperson Vow to Strengthen Institutional Cooperation

The Chairman of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council (KPC), Arian Gashi, received the Ombudsperson, Naim Qelaj, in a meeting today, where they discussed cooperation between the institutions and the protection of fundamental human rights and freedoms.

According to the announcement, the meeting was also attended by KPC members Milot Krasniqi and Arlinda Muqa, as well as the General Director of the KPC Secretariat, Sami Istrefi. The Ombudsperson Institution was also represented by Deputy Ombudsperson Basri Kastrati, along with his associates.

Gashi emphasized the KPC’s commitment to deepening cooperation with the Ombudsperson Institution, underlining the importance of regular communication, exchange of experiences, and coordination on issues related to the responsibilities of both institutions.

He said that respect for human rights in criminal proceedings is one of the main pillars of the rule of law and the proper functioning of the justice system.

“The implementation of constitutional and international human rights standards at all stages of criminal proceedings, in accordance with legality, proportionality, impartiality, and due process of law, is the responsibility of justice institutions,” Gashi stated.

Meanwhile, Ombudsperson Naim Qelaj expressed readiness to continue and advance cooperation with the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council, focusing on the respect and protection of human rights.

At the end of the meeting, both sides agreed to continue mutual communication and cooperation, with the aim of strengthening the rule of law, protecting fundamental freedoms, and increasing citizens’ trust in the justice system.
