According to the Veterans’ Organization (OVL), the Brussels representative’s attention should be directed toward the injustices taking place in The Hague, not toward acts passed by Kosovo’s legislators.

The organization asked Kos to address the human rights violations documented during this judicial process.

If the law is not implemented, they say, veterans and citizens will once again take to the streets in massive protests.

The full statement:

“Commissioner Marta Kos should be concerned about the injustices in The Hague, not about the decisions of the Assembly of Kosovo,” the OVL UÇK stated in its reaction.

“OVL UÇK considers that the European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, should be concerned about the injustices in the judicial process against the former KLA leaders at the Specialized Chambers in The Hague, and not about the legislative initiatives of the deputies elected by the people of Kosovo.”

“The organization calls on Commissioner Marta Kos to address the human rights violations in this process, which have also been documented by The Bar Human Rights Committee of England and Wales (BHRC), and to ensure that these violations are not denied by European institutions.”

“The Specialized Chamber of the Constitutional Court, in decision KSC-CC-2022, paragraph 83, has itself affirmed the right of the Assembly of Kosovo to limit the jurisdiction of the Specialized Chambers through law, and the Assembly of Kosovo has already done so.”

“This law must be implemented in full, and if its implementation does not begin after it enters into force, the veterans and citizens of the Republic of Kosovo will resume massive protests in front of the EU institutions in Kosovo.”

“OVL UÇK emphasizes that the Assembly of Kosovo is a sovereign institution representing the will of the citizens, and therefore interference and pressure on the exercise of its mandate are unacceptable.”

“Commissioner Marta Kos should demand impartial justice and respect for human rights, rather than showing Kosovo’s deputies how to exercise their mandate.”
