US President Donald Trump gave an ironic twist to his speech at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, where he humorously clashed with journalists and political opponents. He hinted that he would run again for president, calling it the “fourth election” – a jab linked to his repeated belief that he won the 2020 election and previous hints about a third term, in a country where the Constitution limits the presidency to two terms.

The ceremony was held in Washington on Friday evening, after being postponed from April due to security measures. This came after someone fired a gun near a checkpoint close to the event’s planned venue.
Trump’s attendance came a day after his administration temporarily withdrew an initiative to sue journalists to hold them accountable for their reporting.
During the nearly hour-long speech, the president maintained a mocking and sarcastic tone, targeting the media and several prominent political figures.
When touching on tensions with Iran, he described the situation as going “wonderfully,” and advised the audience: “Don’t trust the media that spread falsehoods.”
At the end of his speech, he concluded with another quip about his intention to run and win what he called the “fourth election.” This was an ironic jab at his ongoing narrative of victory in the 2020 presidential race, as well as previous statements about a third term, even though the U.S. Constitution clearly sets a maximum of two terms.
“I’ve won three times and I’ll do it again,” Trump said with irony, as he put on a red cap reading “Trump 2028.”
