A new and intense heatwave is expected to sweep across Italy, with temperatures potentially reaching 37-39°C through mid-August.

The weather is currently still being influenced by the African anticyclone, which is keeping temperatures high and conditions generally stable across most of the country. The exception is mountainous areas, where localized storms are possible and are expected to become more frequent and intense in the coming days.
The first signs of a change could emerge as early as Sunday, particularly in some mountainous areas, where severe localized storms are forecast.
The Alps and Pre-Alps are among the areas expected to be most affected by these phenomena. The storms could also spread toward the surrounding plains, while isolated rainfall and storm activity may occur in inland areas of central and southern Italy.
The main change in atmospheric conditions is expected next week. According to forecasts, cooler and more unstable air currents will move in at higher altitudes around August 17-18, creating conditions for powerful storms and lowering temperatures across almost all of Italy.
Meteorologists stress that these events may be brief but highly intense. The heat accumulated in the ground helps warm, humid air rise rapidly.
When these air masses collide with cooler air at higher altitudes, they promote the formation of powerful cumulonimbus clouds.
As a result, certain areas could experience heavy rainfall, strong wind gusts and hail within just a few minutes.
