PDK leader Bedri Hamza told the Assembly that he had met with Prime Minister Albin Kurti two days earlier to discuss the trial of four former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) leaders in The Hague and the drafting of a state strategy for their defense at the appeals stage.

Hamza thanked Kurti for the meeting and announced that, following their discussions, the creation of a working group to develop the state’s defense strategy for the appeal had been approved a day earlier. He described this as a positive step but said the focus must now shift from decision-making to implementation. He stressed the need for a clear plan, with defined responsibilities, specific deadlines and measurable results, guided by the state’s long-term interests.
The PDK leader also spoke about the role he expects President Justina Shiroka-Pula to play in defending the liberation war and historical truth.
He said President Shiroka-Pula’s taking office marks a new institutional phase that should be characterized by responsibility, dedication and dignified representation of Kosovo. Hamza said she is expected to remain actively engaged in the proceedings in The Hague, defending the rights of the former KLA leaders and preserving the historical truth of the liberation war.
He said the president should use the authority of the presidency to communicate with international partners, explain the historical context that has been forgotten and ensure that Kosovo’s position is presented, substantiated and heard in every forum.
Hamza stressed that legal defense in court and the defense of historical truth on the international stage are two separate responsibilities. However, he said these two processes must proceed in parallel and receive state support.
“The state must provide the necessary support and draw up a concrete strategy,” Hamza said.
He added that another urgent issue is increasing funding for legal defense.
