According to him, Salianji should not have been the target of criticism for having joined the protesters; however, he stressed that the young people in the streets have made clear their rejection of active politics and the figures who represent it.
For the analyst, this stance demonstrates the protesters’ effort to keep the movement free from the influence of political parties.
Speaking about Salianji’s aspirations to lead the Democratic Party, Murati assessed that the MP is facing an almost impossible battle, since Sali Berisha still has the final say in the party.
“I would not take Salianji to task for the fact that he took part in the flamingos’ protest. Either way, in the eyes of that movement he remains a politician of the old model. The young people who came out there, together with the protest organizers, have kept their distance not only from him, but also from names like Arlind Qori, Lapaj, or Shehaj – the space for active politics has been deliberately closed. Salianji, for his part, dreams of the DP chairman’s chair, but I have repeated that this is a road that ends in front of a wall. I have said it without hesitation: the Democratic Party belongs to Sali Berisha. Even if we were to split Salianji into two individuals, he as an analyst would be entirely right – but as an active politician, the struggle to replace Berisha in the DP seems to me a futile effort. Whenever you don’t find yourself within a political family, there is only one solution: create a new party,” he said, among other things.
