ASH: Constitutional amendments must be adopted immediately; Europe’s future cannot be built on fear of the past

The Alliance for Albanians says that while Ukraine faces bombardment and destruction every day, it continues courageously along its path toward the European Union. Moldova, according to ASH, is also making determined progress. By contrast, although we live in peace, we are losing important years by becoming entangled in fear, prejudice and political clashes instead of focusing on building the future.

ASH recalls that the name change was once portrayed as a threat to the country’s identity, language and statehood. Today, the party emphasizes, the identity has remained unchanged, the Macedonian language exists, and North Macedonia is part of NATO, with shared security guarantees and a stronger international position. According to the party, what was once considered a threat to the country’s existence has now become one of its greatest state achievements.

“The same story is being repeated. The constitutional amendments are once again being accompanied by fear, excuses and delays, while other states continue to move forward,” ASH said.

The Alliance for Albanians says it has consistently called for reflection, courage and responsibility from political actors.

“We strongly call for an agreement to be reached and the constitutional amendments to be adopted now, so that the path toward membership in the European Union can be opened. At the same time, the discriminatory wording ‘20 percent’ must be removed so that Albanians can enjoy full equality. Respect for Macedonian identity and guaranteeing equality for Albanians must not become grounds for concessions and opposition, as these are the foundations of a modern European state,” ASH added.

According to the party, Ukraine is fighting for its European future amid an armed conflict, while we, despite living in peace and security, remain trapped by fear of change due to a lack of political courage and will. “We cannot aspire to a European future while living in fear of the past. The time for courage and decision-making is now, because tomorrow may be too late,” ASH concluded./Telegrafi/
