The process of establishing Kosovo’s new institutions remains paralyzed by the political deadlock, while attention is focused on efforts to reach an agreement between the Vetëvendosje Movement and the Democratic League of Kosovo.

Acting President Albulena Haxhiu has provided further details about the discussions between LVV and LDK on finding a way out of the situation. According to her, several options have been considered during the meetings, but the parties have yet to reach an agreement on forming the institutions.
Agim Aliçkaj, an Albanian activist in the United States, also spoke to “Bota sot” about the political developments. He considers the situation extremely absurd and, unfortunately, does not yet see any way out on the horizon.
Aliçkaj said citizens are tired of voting for Albin Kurti as prime minister without getting to see him govern normally. According to him, PDK, LDK and the Alliance, as the election losers, are relying on Ahtisaari’s “compromise” Constitution to keep the state blocked indefinitely.
He said the Srpska List benefits from this situation, describing it as a hostile organization established and mobilized solely to destabilize and destroy the state of Kosovo. According to him, it is openly and directly controlled by the racist and hegemonist Serbian regime.
The activist also criticized European diplomats. He said that instead of demanding that the opposition end its blockades, they have focused on strengthening this list and are calling for hostile prosecutors to be reinstated. According to Aliçkaj, diplomats demand compliance with laws and rules on the one hand, while on the other they pressure the caretaker government to break the law in the interests of the Serbian regime in Belgrade.
Turning to the possibility of an agreement between LVV and LDK to establish the new institutions, Aliçkaj said reaching one appears very difficult, particularly because of internal developments within LDK and the number of votes required to elect the president.
He recalled that talks between the two parties, which began in earnest after the June elections, had given citizens hope that a political agreement on the institutions might be reached this time. According to him, President Albulena Haxhiu’s statements about these discussions had also carried a somewhat optimistic tone.
However, Aliçkaj said it remains to be seen what the coming days will bring, as serious divisions within LDK make a positive outcome difficult.
According to him, the main obstacle remains the election of the president, a process requiring a quorum of two-thirds of the MPs. He described this requirement as the result of an erroneous and nonsensical decision by Kosovo’s Constitutional Court, adding that the chances of LDK securing the necessary 18 votes are very slim.
Aliçkaj warned that a complete boycott of the vote by LDK MPs would prove that the party has still not freed itself from the influence of Kosovo’s oligarchs and their paid friends in America.
According to him, if LDK truly cares about the state and does not want to bear responsibility for sending the country to another election, it should provide as many votes as it can, even in the absence of a coalition.
In such a scenario, responsibility would shift to PDK and the Alliance. Aliçkaj said MPs from these parties would be committing a serious dereliction of duty if they did not remain at their workplaces in Parliament during the presidential vote. In this way, according to him, they would continue to bear primary responsibility for blocking the state.
He also commented on Alliance leader Ardian Gjini’s statement that his party would surprise people by increasing its vote total in a new election. Aliçkaj called the claim naive and baseless, saying that Mr. Gjini is among those who dream of reaping without sowing anything.
According to him, Gjini is warning of premeditated blockades organized according to a specific plan. Such behavior, Aliçkaj said, harms the state and means that his party does not deserve to cross the electoral threshold.
He also criticized PDK, saying it had been deceived by the Serbian lobbyist Grenell and the pro-Serbian Edi Rama. According to Aliçkaj, the party has openly positioned itself in favor of sending the country to an election, despite Kurti’s proposal, in the hope that its leaders will be released from The Hague and return to Kosovo with their pockets full of votes. He asked where they would find those votes, even if they were released.
Considering all these developments, the Albanian activist from the United States said the parties that lost the most recent election are showing no interest in resolving the deadlock.
He said all indications show that these political groups do not aim to offer a way out, but merely to find reasons to keep the state blocked indefinitely. According to him, they hope to remove Prime Minister Kurti from government and politics without realizing that this desire is unattainable.
Aliçkaj stressed that the people cannot be deceived and that citizens can tell who is responsible. He added that the opposition’s actions do not harm Kurti, but only the state.
According to him, through its senseless behavior, the opposition itself is determining and prolonging Kurti’s time in office. The government continues to operate with more limited powers and, consequently, less responsibility for the functioning of the state.
Aliçkaj said that if Kurti were allowed to govern normally, the opposition would have more substantive grounds on which to criticize him. According to him, this would give it an opportunity to position itself better in the next election.
In conclusion, he said that Prime Minister Kurti has the right to govern during this term, while the presidency belongs to the people.
Aliçkaj said citizens’ only expectation of Kurti and his coalition is that they be constructive and open and put forward compromise proposals, just as they did before the June 7 election.
According to him, the presidential candidate should be nonpartisan, capable and internationally experienced.
He called on all parties to understand that if they want to continue to exist and the country is to have a state, they must respect the fact that Prime Minister Kurti has the right to govern during this term, while the presidency belongs to the people. Aliçkaj said this is the will clearly expressed by citizens and that, for wise politicians, the solution is very simple.
Finally, Agim Aliçkaj told “Bota sot” that anyone who violates the will of the people tramples on the centuries-long resistance, the liberation war, the blood of the heroes and all the victims of the Serbian genocide.
