Thessaloniki was hit by a powerful storm on Wednesday evening, causing flooding on several roads and seriously disrupting vehicle movement.

Intense rainfall began at around 9:30 p.m. and spread within minutes across a significant part of the city, including the western areas and the vicinity of the airport.
In addition to the heavy rain, the storm was accompanied by strong winds and frequent lightning strikes. The large volume of water flooded several road sections, while drivers faced numerous obstacles during their journeys.
The most difficult situation was reported in central Thessaloniki, where traffic worsened due to long queues and considerable delays.
Several cultural activities taking place at the time were also suspended because of the poor weather conditions.
Heavy rainfall, hail and powerful winds also caused damage in Kozani, in Western Macedonia. Damage, fallen trees and temporary power outages were reported in several villages there.
Unstable weather is also expected in Thessaloniki and several areas of Central Macedonia today, with rainfall and storms potentially continuing until the afternoon.
