Berlin police said on Monday that a fire had broken out at an electrical substation, while authorities are examining the possibility that it was another act of sabotage against Germany’s energy infrastructure.
The flames broke out in the Moabit area of the German capital, causing damage to a construction site and part of the electrical substation, according to a statement distributed by police via WhatsApp.

Authorities confirmed that the electricity supply had not been interrupted and that investigations were continuing to determine whether the cause was deliberate arson or a technical failure.
As part of the investigation, law enforcement agencies are searching for a 48-year-old man whom they describe as an “extremist” climate activist and who is believed to be responsible for a series of attacks. He is suspected of having claimed responsibility for the acts in two letters sent to local media.
Meanwhile, prosecutors in Saxony said today that a total of 21 explosive devices placed near high-voltage power lines had been discovered during investigative operations into attacks on the energy grid. All the devices were successfully neutralized, and the investigation is continuing to deepen.
In recent years, Germany has faced a significant increase in attempted sabotage and hybrid attacks targeting its energy sector. Some of these acts have been attributed to left-wing extremist groups or environmentalists, while others have been linked to Russia.
In recent days alone, several similar facilities have been targeted in the states of North Rhine-Westphalia and Brandenburg.
