A 14-year-old boy attacked a girl with a knife in a shop in Cirencester, Gloucestershire, in the United Kingdom, after she rejected his request for a date.

The attack took place on the morning of March 15. The court heard that the 14-year-old, who was a schoolmate of the girl, had become fixated on her. After she rejected his advances in December 2025, he created fake social media accounts to send her messages.
Security camera footage showed the teenager approaching the girl calmly before stabbing her several times. A shop employee tried to intervene and pull him away from the girl, but the attacker also stabbed him in the back.
In another part of the footage, the girl can be seen running through the shop as the 14-year-old follows her, still holding the knife. She managed to get outside and sought help at a nearby home.
The girl suffered wounds to her neck, hands and face, as well as injuries to her back. After the incident, the teenager left the scene, but police arrested him shortly afterward in the area. During a search, a knife was found in his trouser pocket.
Because of his age and legal reasons, the identity of the 14-year-old cannot be made public. The court was told that he had pleaded guilty to wounding with intent, causing grievous bodily harm without intent and possession of a bladed article in a public place.
The court sentenced him to a 12-month referral order and imposed a three-year restraining order prohibiting contact.
In her statement to the court, the girl said that she had lived in fear since the attack and was frightened even when people made sudden movements.
She added that she continually experienced nightmares about the attack and that the incident had changed the way she moved around and how safe she felt in the area where she lived.
“I am frightened and nervous wherever I go,” the girl said.
Detective Ian Fletcher, who leads investigations into serious and complex cases for Gloucestershire Police, described the incident as a violent attack carried out in broad daylight.
He said the girl had been “very, very lucky” to escape with injuries classified as minor, as the attack could have had a fatal outcome.
