A serious incident occurred yesterday evening in the Gjoricë area of Bulqizë, where five members of a family were caught by the waters of the Drin River while bathing. The main suspicion is the drowning of a minor around 7 years old.

According to information from Bulqizë police authorities, the situation worsened suddenly after the river’s water level rose significantly. This came as a result of water being released from the hydropower plant dams in the Greater Dibra area, causing the current to sweep away the bathers.
Relatives of the people involved notified the police around 21:00. Law enforcement forces arrived quickly at the scene and, after an intensive operation lasting approximately four hours, managed to pull four of them out alive.
Meanwhile, rescue teams are continuing uninterrupted work to locate the minor child, around 7 years old, who is believed to have been carried away by the force of the water current and is listed as missing.
