Trump made the comments while speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, where he confirmed that he had spoken with the Russian president. According to him, the phone call was positive.
“I spoke with him about this. We had a good conversation. He will not attack,” Trump declared, emphasizing that Putin would not strike the territories of NATO countries.
Meanwhile, the American statements came at a time when tensions between Moscow and Western countries have once again reached significant levels.
Russia has threatened retaliatory measures against British military bases and facilities after Ukraine used weapons supplied by London to attack Russian refineries and infrastructure.
Russia’s Foreign Ministry has stated that any British military facility or equipment could be targeted in a possible response, whether inside Ukrainian territory or beyond it.
However, European Union sources in Brussels have said that, at this stage, there is no immediate threat of a Russian attack on European countries or NATO member states.
