Sixth victim recorded from West Nile fever

Another patient affected by West Nile fever has died at the Infectious Diseases Clinic, bringing the number of fatal cases to six.

The clinic’s director, Adil Cana, said the victim was a 72-year-old patient who had been hospitalized 15 days earlier in an exceptionally serious general condition and with an extremely severe clinical picture.

According to Cana, the patient died yesterday afternoon despite the intensive measures taken during his treatment in the intensive care unit.

So far, a total of 57 patients have been admitted to the Infectious Diseases Clinic.

Of these, 27 have recovered, while 18 others continue to receive treatment. Cana said that laboratory tests have confirmed the virus in 15 of the patients currently hospitalized, all of whom have the neuroinvasive form.
