Tehran has denied that it is negotiating with the United States, stressing that it does not foresee such talks taking place. This position contradicts a statement by US President Donald Trump, who said negotiations to end the conflict would resume on Monday.

Iranian authorities confirmed that the only discussions underway are with Oman and are aimed at reaching an understanding on navigational security in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei, the dialogue with Oman is focused on establishing a temporary corridor through which commercial shipping could resume in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s main oil and gas trade routes.
Tehran’s response followed Donald Trump’s announcement that he had halted “massive” attacks against Iran to allow room for the diplomatic process. Speaking aboard Air Force One, he said the Iranian side was aware of the US plans and that talks were expected to begin soon, but he did not say who the participants would be.
Trump said he believed an agreement could be reached that would include both the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and a resolution of the issue of Iran’s nuclear program. The US president also said that Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar had asked him not to launch a military offensive because they believed the diplomatic path had not yet been exhausted.
Meanwhile, Iran’s semi-official Mehr news agency rejected Trump’s claims that Tehran had requested a halt to US attacks, describing them as “lies”.
