The attack took place on Saturday afternoon inside a busy shopping center where hundreds of people were present at the time.
Local authorities said that after arriving at the scene of the shooting, police found the body of the suspected attacker near the restaurant. It remains unclear whether he is included in the reported death toll.
Officials said several of those injured are in serious condition. The names and ages of the victims have not yet been released, as authorities are first notifying their families.
Witnesses described scenes of panic during the attack. A 34-year-old man said he saw someone carrying an “AR”-style rifle while leaving the drive-thru area. According to him, another man responded by firing a handgun.
The 34-year-old also said that a restaurant employee dragged a female colleague who had been shot in the chest out of the danger zone. The two then stayed with her until emergency medical teams arrived.
Another woman, who was in the restaurant with her daughters, said the gunshots came from the kitchen area. She said staff told customers to lie on the floor and then leave the building as quickly as possible.
Investigators are continuing to interview witnesses and gather evidence to determine the full circumstances of the attack. It remains unclear whether the gunman targeted specific individuals.
