Geci: A New Era for Justice Begins with Gërvalla; No One Can Be Above the Law

Former MP Halil Geci has openly expressed his support for acting Justice Minister Donika Gërvalla, stressing that Kosovo’s justice sector is entering a new chapter under her leadership.

According to him, concrete conditions have now been created to consolidate the rule of law and shed light on cases that have remained in the dark for years.

Geci emphasizes that justice institutions must perform their duties without political influence or favoritism of any kind, “Bota sot” reports.

In a written statement, he stresses that no country with a consolidated democracy tolerates anyone openly threatening a prime minister, a public official or any other citizen while believing they are above the law. He adds that judicial authorities have a duty to investigate on the basis of laws, evidence and facts, without exception.

With the strengthening of justice mechanisms, citizens are hopeful that every suspicion of a legal violation will be examined on the basis of concrete evidence and individual responsibility, regardless of anyone’s position or background.

Donika Gërvalla’s appointment as head of the Ministry of Justice has given many people a renewed sense of optimism about strengthening the rule of law and taking a firmer approach to cases that have long remained unsolved.

For years, public perception has been dominated by the belief that some serious cases have not been handled with the necessary seriousness because of political pressure and fear of influential figures. Today, society’s main demand is for the courts to operate freely, guided solely by legal norms and evidentiary material.

No one should enjoy de facto immunity from the law, regardless of their merits, position or past. The struggle for freedom and the sacrifice of many people cannot be turned into a justification for avoiding any potential accountability before the justice system.

Kosovo urgently needs stable institutions that ensure an impartial system, protect citizens’ rights and restore confidence that every injustice can be challenged through legal channels.
