Ann Widdecombe, 78, was found dead at her home on Thursday and had suffered serious injuries. Police are working to fully clarify the circumstances of the incident and identify the suspected perpetrator.

At the same time, the 26-year-old man who was initially arrested on suspicion of Widdecombe’s murder has been released and is no longer considered part of the investigation.

The BBC reports that the 78-year-old former MP had been scheduled to appear on Matt Allwright’s Channel 5 programme on Wednesday. However, before the interview took place, the programme’s staff were unable to contact her.
