Lamallari: More security in tourist areas, Police increase monitoring with technology and jet skis

The State Police today presented a package of measures to ensure a calm tourist season, with special emphasis on increasing the police presence in tourist destinations, using technology for monitoring, and strengthening the Marine Police Unit.

At the event held in Durrës, Interior Minister Besfort Lamallari said that the development of tourism brings not only benefits for the economy, but also greater obligations to protect visitors and citizens.

“When a tourist chooses Albania, he does not choose only a beach, a mountain or a historic city. He chooses a state that welcomes him with dignity from the Border Crossing Point and protects him with professionalism,” Lamallari said, stressing that security is an essential part of the country’s image.

He praised the work of the State Police during the summer months, which he described as one of the most difficult periods of the year for public services.

“A safe country is not built with words, but with a lot of work and dedication, and with people who wake up first and sleep last. I am referring to the State Police, which bears the main burden during these months with a high flow of travelers and gatherings in tourist areas,” he said.

Speaking about safety at sea, Lamallari highlighted the role of the Marine Police Unit, which he described as an important structure for preventing incidents on beaches and overseeing navigation rules.

“This modern structure, established for the first time in 2023, has today become one of the strongest guarantees of security in the country’s maritime space, from Velipoja to Ksamil, from the Adriatic coast to the waters of the Ionian,” the minister declared.

According to him, during 2025, the Marine Police Unit and the Border Police assisted 231 citizens and 80 vessels in difficulty at sea, while more than 5,600 vessels were inspected and violations endangering the safety of vacationers were punished.

For the 2026 summer season, the State Police will increase its operational presence along the coastline, using specialized equipment, technology, and uninterrupted monitoring.

“35 jet skis, trained personnel, intensive patrols along the entire coastline, and aerial monitoring with drones will serve the safety of vacationers,” Lamallari said.

He also announced that the Border Police will use new technologies and direct links to the TIMS system to facilitate procedures for yachts, sailboats, and other vessels visiting Albania.

“The Border Police is often the first face of the Albanian state for millions of visitors entering our country. Alongside guaranteeing border security, its mission is to provide professional, correct and dignified service to every Albanian and foreign citizen,” the minister said.

In conclusion, Lamallari thanked the employees of the State Police, Border Police and the Marine Police Unit for their commitment and stressed the goal of a tourist season with the highest security standards.

“Let us work together so that the 2026 tourist season is the safest season Albania has ever known, so that every visitor leaves with beautiful memories and Albania continues to be a success story that inspires and attracts the world,” Lamallari concluded.
