Osmani herself announced the meeting, particularly praising Senator Shaheen’s role as an unwavering supporter of Kosovo.
During the discussion, the LDK lawmaker asked the senators to support Kosovo’s NATO membership process, as well as the launch of strategic dialogue with the United States of America. According to her, this process was officially initiated during her term as president.
Osmani also expressed her gratitude to the senators for a number of initiatives they have supported and advanced in the US Senate in the service of peace, security and stability in the region.
She said that during the meeting she also sought support for preserving the truth about Kosovo’s liberation war, stressing that Serbia’s continued efforts to spread propaganda and rewrite history must not be allowed.
According to Osmani, the victim—the people of Kosovo—cannot be placed on the same moral level as the aggressor, the Serbian regime. She stressed that historical truth must not be relativized and that justice cannot be built on its distortion.
The former president said she presented the senators with historical, legal and political arguments against claims made by Serbian propaganda that Christians are being subjected to repression in Kosovo.
Osmani described this narrative as dangerous and said that, having been persistently promoted by circles in Serbia, it must be continually countered by the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo through facts and arguments. She added that religious freedom, coexistence and respect for everyone’s rights are values of Kosovo that must not be undermined by propaganda.
