Zelensky said that Russian drones continued flying over Ukrainian territory throughout Sunday. According to him, air-dropped bomb attacks and strikes against energy facilities were also reported during the same period.
“Unfortunately, Ukraine’s skies were filled all day with Russian Shahed drones. Air-dropped bomb attacks and strikes against energy infrastructure have continued,” he said in a message to citizens.
Trump had earlier announced the halt to attacks on energy infrastructure via the Truth Social platform, where he said Russia and Ukraine had agreed that the ceasefire would take effect immediately.
However, the Ukrainian president said the announcement was new information for Kyiv. He added that Ukraine was ready to implement the agreement, but only if Moscow made the same commitment.
The Associated Press (AP) reported that Ukrainian authorities had announced Russian attacks on energy facilities in Kyiv and Kharkiv even after Trump’s statement.
Zelensky has repeated his demand that Russia stop attacking power plants and other vital infrastructure, insisting that any agreement to ease tensions must be implemented by both sides.
Meanwhile, at the time of the reports, Moscow had not yet officially confirmed the ceasefire. The agreement’s conditions, duration or monitoring mechanism had also not been disclosed.
The Ukrainian president has said that Kyiv is ready to halt attacks on Russian oil refineries if Russia stops striking Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
According to Zelensky, a lasting reduction in tensions cannot be achieved when only one side implements a halt to the attacks.
Recent developments have raised questions about the implementation of the initiative announced by Trump. It remains to be seen whether Moscow and Kyiv will officially confirm the agreement and take concrete steps to stop attacks on energy infrastructure.
