Emmanuel Macron described his conversation with US President Donald Trump, held in New York, as “very constructive,” with attention focused on developments in the Red Sea and the war in Ukraine.

The two leaders met on Monday during the high-level week of the United Nations General Assembly. The discussions included international security issues and measures that could be taken in response to developments in strategically important regions.
After the meeting, the French president said he had discussed with Trump ways to ensure “better” security conditions for facilities linked to oil exports in the Red Sea area.
The Red Sea has recently been affected by heightened tensions linked to attacks and threats against maritime transport and energy infrastructure.
Macron also said that his conversation with the US president focused on the need to accelerate and strengthen support for Ukraine.
He stressed that the meeting specifically addressed aid for “our Ukrainian friends,” particularly the provision of “interceptor missiles,” with the aim of increasing Ukraine’s air-defense capabilities.
