September 12 marks, for Democrats, the anniversary of the killing of Azem Hajdari, one of the leading figures of the December 1990 Student Movement, which led protests aimed at bringing down the communist regime.

The secretary general of the Democratic Party, Flamur Noka, described the day as a reminder of the struggle and resistance, calling for support for protests against Edi Rama’s government.
“More than ever, it is a motivation, a motivation to confront a regime that has now become a regime of crime and corruption, Edi Rama’s narco-regime. Azem Hajdari is issuing an appeal today that there is only one way to bring down this regime. And that way is confrontation, resistance, battle with them, uprising—it is the only way to bring down the regime,” Noka declared.
Azem Hajdari, a Democratic Party lawmaker, was killed on the evening of September 12, 1998, near the DP headquarters in Tirana. Democrats have described the incident as a “political assassination,” and it is considered one of the gravest episodes of that period.
