A prison employee in the United Kingdom has avoided jail despite having a three-month romance with an inmate, sending him intimate material and declarations of love.

Twenty-three-year-old Samantha Stowell began her relationship with Conor Dobson while working as an officer at the high-security HMP Manchester prison, according to reports in the British media.
The young man was serving a sentence for causing the death of a 70-year-old woman in a car crash.
It emerged in court that there had been a steady stream of messages between the couple, including images and videos of an explicitly sexual nature.
In their exchanges, Stowell did not hesitate to openly express her emotions, telling him that she was “his little princess.”
Dobson, for his part, wrote that looking into her eyes made him fall in love, while Stowell replied that he made her happy and that she was in love with him.
In their conversations, she also expressed the hope that one day they could live “properly together.”
Investigators also uncovered a flow of money: Dobson had sent Stowell around £1,200 through a third party.
According to the prosecution, she used the funds to buy various gifts.
The entire illicit relationship came to light after guards discovered a secretly concealed iPhone during a routine search of Dobson’s cell.
Following the discovery, the officer was placed under investigation and her mobile device was seized, becoming key evidence of their communications.
During questioning, Stowell admitted her wrongdoing and said she did not want to serve a sentence behind bars. As the reason for her vulnerability, she cited her fragile emotional state following a breakup with her boyfriend, adding that Dobson’s attention had made an impression on her.
The young woman pleaded guilty to misconduct in public office, a criminal activity that lasted from March 13, 2022, to August 10, 2023.
The court imposed a six-month prison sentence but suspended its execution for a 24-month period.
Judge Patrick Field, when passing sentence, took the officer’s young age at the time as a mitigating circumstance.
Nevertheless, he strongly emphasized that her involvement with an inmate was “completely unacceptable,” adding that Stowell knew this well because of the training she had received.
