The national protest held today in front of the Prime Minister’s Office drew special international attention, as Italian MEP Ilaria Salis took the मंच to address the Albanian citizens gathered on the 28th day of resistance against Edi Rama’s government.
Welcomed with loud cheers by those present, Salis described this civic movement in Albania as a display of courage that, according to her, could serve as a model for all of Europe. She said that in these streets, in the name of what she called the “revolution of the flamingos,” a better Europe is being seen than the one in Brussels.

In her speech, the Italian MEP also focused on the issue of the country’s natural resources, calling for them to be protected from the interests of oligarchy and clientelism.
“Albania, its land, its beauty, its cultural wealth, is not a commodity to be sold to the highest bidder. Sazan Island and the Narta lagoon must remain protected areas for everyone and for the next generation. It must not become a playground for the rich,” Salis said from the platform in front of the Prime Minister’s Office.
She further stressed that the citizens’ reaction against the model of corruption and privilege is entirely justified, underlining that this system does not benefit the population, but serves only the interests of the most powerful. According to her, unfortunately, this phenomenon is not limited to Albania alone, but also appears across Europe and the world.
Salis gave special praise to the resistance of Albanian citizens, saying that the message coming from Tirana’s boulevard is crossing borders and becoming a lesson in dignity for other peoples.
According to her, citizens are writing history by showing a path built on courage, dignity, and collective solidarity. The MEP underlined that this is an excellent example of taking our fate into our own hands and not allowing the oligarchy to decide the future of society.
