A dense cloud of toxic smoke has enveloped a wide area, from Krujë to Kamëz, while the fire in the waste pile in the village of Halil in Fushë-Krujë continues to burn in the inner layers. Although rain has managed to extinguish the flames on the surface, the hotspot remains active beneath the mountain of garbage and releases dangerous gases that move depending on the wind direction.

Throughout the night, firefighting forces from Krujë have operated in the area, assisted by units from the fire service of the Institute, in an effort to contain the spread of the fire. Sources indicate that an intervention with heavy machinery is expected to dump earth on the hotspot, the only viable solution to completely extinguish the burning at a waste disposal site.
An additional concern is the location of the drinking water reservoir, just meters from the incident site. This investment, inaugurated years ago, supplies water to Fushë-Krujë and several surrounding villages, adding to fears of contamination of water reserves.
Meanwhile, the toxic smoke has already covered Krujë, Fushë-Krujë, Kamëz, and reaches as far as Thumanë. Residents alarmed by the worsening air quality and health risks are urging competent institutions to intervene without delay to definitively extinguish the fire and immediately begin monitoring atmospheric pollution in these areas.
