Appeals Court Upholds Detention of Former Durrës Post Office Director Suspected of Stealing 700 Million Lek

The Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction has upheld the pretrial detention order for Elisabeta Mataj, the former head of the Durrës Post Office.

The former official is accused of embezzling nearly 700 million lek. Meanwhile, the court left unchanged the house arrest orders for two former employees who reported to her, Paola Danaj and Valbona Duni.

With this decision, the Appeals Court has reaffirmed the restrictions on the freedom of the three defendants, while the investigation into the case remains ongoing.
