The situation caused by the fire in the village of Rriban, in the Municipality of Mallakastër, worsened overnight as the flames spread significantly and now threaten to engulf the Lofkënd forest.

Crews deployed on the ground are operating in two areas, Rriban and Lofkënd, in an effort to halt the fire’s advance. Authorities consider the situation critical.
The operation involves five fire engines from Mallakastër, Fier, Roskovec, Berat and Kuçovë, as well as 30 firefighters, 35 municipal personnel and two water tankers.
A further 35–40 Armed Forces troops are also expected to join the operation.
Ground operations have been hampered by the rugged terrain, dense vegetation, the size of the area affected by the fire and the intensity of the flames.
Given the situation, authorities have deemed aerial intervention essential to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading further toward the forest.
