A magnitude 5 earthquake on the Richter scale was recorded on Saturday morning in the Battalgazi district, part of Malatya province in eastern Turkey.
Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) said the tremor occurred at 06:20 local time. The earthquake was also felt in the neighbouring provinces of Elazig, Adiyaman, Tunceli and Sanliurfa.

So far, authorities have reported no injuries or material damage.
According to AFAD, emergency teams have been deployed to the area to carry out the relevant inspections, while there have so far been no signs of problems caused by the tremor.
Turkey’s Minister of Environment and Urban Development, Murat Kurum, also said that no negative situation had been identified, adding that every report was being verified.
Malatya was among the regions hardest hit by the devastating 2023 earthquake, which caused more than 53,000 deaths and significant damage in southeastern Turkey.
