The European integration process for Albania marks a historic moment today, as the three initial chapters of membership negotiations will be finalized in Brussels.
Prime Minister Edi Rama leads the Albanian delegation at this ninth Intergovernmental Conference with the European Union, where the closure of Chapter 25 (Science and Research), Chapter 26 (Education and Culture), and Chapter 30 (Foreign Relations) will be sealed. These areas have already been assessed as aligned with EU standards.

The high-level session will open at 19:00, while a press conference on the progress of the integration journey has been announced for around 20:00.
This step represents the successful completion of interim benchmarks (IBAR), a cornerstone in the framework of dialogue with European institutions.
Following this achievement, Tirana must fulfill the criteria for closing the remaining 30 chapters, with the ambition of concluding the technical part of the negotiations by 2027. The final word on full accession remains a political decision, which requires the unanimous consent of the 27 member states of the Union.
