Large numbers of Kosovo Police officers began searches at several locations in Pristina, Ferizaj and Fushë Kosovë this morning as part of a wide-ranging operation with an international scope.

According to media sources, the Kosovo Police Directorate for the Investigation of Economic Crimes and Corruption is operating on the ground. The investigation under which these actions are being carried out is led by the Special Prosecution Office of the Republic of Kosovo.

Information obtained by the media indicates that searches at various locations are being conducted under an order from the Basic Court in Pristina – Special Department.

The operation’s reach beyond Kosovo is a particularly significant feature. Sources cited by Sinjali report that, alongside the raids in Kosovo, coordinated actions are taking place in Germany and several other European countries, with the aim of uncovering suspected cross-border criminal activity.

Financial and material evidence is the focus of the searches

According to sources cited by Sinjali, the raids are intended to secure material and financial evidence that could help identify those involved and trace the movement of suspected proceeds.

Investigators are searching for mobile phones, computers and other electronic devices, financial documents, cash, gold and other valuables.

As the investigation proceeds, communications and transactions are also expected to be examined, along with possible financial links between individuals and entities suspected of participating in the activity.

Money laundering suspicions in the context of international fraud

The operation is taking place at a time when local and international authorities have been investigating financial fraud, including cases carried out through call centers, commonly known as Call Centers.

In schemes of this kind, people may be defrauded through fake investment offers. For financial investigators, tracing the flow of money and identifying the ultimate beneficiaries remain among the main challenges.

There is no confirmation yet, however, that today’s operation is directly linked to any specific network of call centers.

Operation continues, with no final figures yet

The number of locations searched, any arrests and the value of any money or items seized have not yet been established in final figures.

Operations are continuing simultaneously on several fronts. Their results are expected to clarify the scale of the suspected activity and its possible international links.
