An operation by Italian authorities against groups suspected of links to the Camorra in the Naples area has ended with the seizure of €3.2 million in cash.

The money was discovered in an apartment on Via Atellana in Caivano, where it had been concealed inside the walls. Footage released by the Carabinieri shows officers using hammers to break open the walls and remove the banknotes.
The sum consisted mainly of €50 notes. The banknotes had been wrapped in cellophane and placed in plastic buckets. During the search, a luxury watch was also found in the same apartment.
The authorities’ investigation is linked to suspicions of drug trafficking and extortion. The people under investigation are also accused of an armed Camorra-style conspiracy, possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking, and offenses committed through mafia methods.
As a result of the operation, 34 people were arrested. Of these, 23 were sent to prison, while the other 11 were placed under house arrest.
According to the Carabinieri, the group is suspected of being led by the Angelino clan, which is active in the areas of Caivano and Casoria. The operation was carried out by the investigative unit of Castello di Cisterna, in cooperation with the operational units of Caivano and Casoria, under the coordination of the Naples Public Prosecutor’s Office and the District Anti-Mafia Directorate.
