The Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office in Skopje has initiated proceedings against a Mexican national suspected of the criminal offense of “Assault on an official person while performing security duties,” provided for under Article 383, paragraph 1, of the Criminal Code.

According to the allegations, the incident took place on September 19, during the “October Festival – Sounds of Culture” event in Gjorce Petrov Park. The police officer had attempted to identify the 31-year-old, who then struck him in the head with a beer can. When the officer tried to stop him, the suspect attacked him again and hit him on the hands.
As the Mexican national has no registered residence in the country, the public prosecutor assessed that there was a risk of flight. For this reason, a request was submitted to the pre-trial judge to impose detention on the suspect, the Ministry of Interior announced.
