At noon today, arrested Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj was admitted to a private hospital in the capital. Veliaj left his cell at Durrës Prison and was transported by ambulance to Salus Hospital, reports. Dosja.al
The reasons for Veliaj’s hospitalization remain unknown, including whether he has a health problem, is undergoing a routine check-up, or is seeking grounds to request a change to his security measure. This comes after courts at every level in the country rejected his request to change his current security measure of pretrial detention.

Meanwhile, this is not the first time Veliaj has been taken to a private hospital. Just a few months ago, Veliaj underwent a primarily cosmetic procedure to remove warts. However, after several hours, he was returned to his cell under escort by a large police presence.
