Haxhiu gives Kurti the mandate to form Kosovo’s government

Following the official proposal by the Vetëvendosje! Movement, Acting President Albulena Haxhiu has mandated Albin Kurti to form the Government of the Republic of Kosovo.

Haxhiu said the decision had been made in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo. She wished Kurti success in carrying out the responsibilities entrusted to him by the citizens and in completing the government-formation process as quickly as possible, in the service of the Republic of Kosovo and its citizens.

Albin Kurti, leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement, went to a meeting with Acting President Albulena Haxhiu to accept the mandate as candidate for prime minister of Kosovo.

Meanwhile, Haxhiu, who is also speaker of the Assembly, said that parliament was considered constituted following the election of deputy speakers Kujtim Shala, Emilia Rexhepi and Tanja Vujoviq.

The Vetëvendosje! Movement sent a letter to Albulena Haxhiu, in her capacity as Acting President, proposing its leader, Albin Kurti, as the nominee to form the Government of Kosovo.

Through the letter, Vetëvendosje officially conveyed its position on the creation of new institutions following the constitution of the Assembly.

Following this proposal, the procedure for forming the new government was expected to begin. The nominee would have to present the composition of the government cabinet to the Assembly, where it would be put to a vote.

A session of the Assembly of Kosovo was scheduled to be held today, at which the formation of the new government was expected to be considered.

According to sources, 14:00 was considered the most likely time for the session, while the final schedule was expected to be confirmed during the day.

The session was expected to take place after the constitution of the Assembly, during which the deputy speakers from the LDK, the Serb List and other communities were elected.

The Democratic Party of Kosovo did not take part in this process, as it believed that the constitutional deadlines had been exceeded.
