According to the doctor’s statement, George Mazonakis had initially undergone an examination on Tuesday afternoon, which found that his body was under considerable strain. She added that during the conversation that followed, the singer even had difficulty speaking.

Ms Gaka said that during Tuesday’s visit, George Mazonakis asked her what could be done immediately, as he had an event planned in the coming days and wanted his health to improve quickly.

The doctor reported that she proposed a blood purification procedure using a special device and informed him that the treatment had no side effects or contraindications; the singer agreed to proceed.

The following day, Wednesday, George Mazonakis arrived at the clinic in Kolonaki, according to the doctor’s testimony. She found that the singer had not slept and again noticed a problem with his articulation, as he “was not speaking properly,” as she put it.

Describing the procedure, Ioanna Gaka told police that an infusion bag was initially attached to the singer’s right arm, after which an attempt was made to attach a second bag to his left arm, as this is necessary for this particular method, she explained.

Until that point, the 54-year-old singer’s vital signs had been normal, as his blood pressure, oxygen levels and body temperature showed no problems, the doctor said. However, as she attempted to complete the placement of the second bag, she noticed a sudden deterioration in George Mazonakis’s condition, with his blood pressure and oxygen levels dropping.

According to the doctor, the procedure was stopped immediately. She called her husband, and together they began administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to the singer, while the Emergency Medical Service was alerted at the same time.

At the end of her testimony, the doctor stated that Giorgos Mazonakis was alive when he left the clinic in Kolonaki and that all the equipment there was certified, pledging to provide the necessary certificates.

However, according to reports, her husband, who is also the owner of the clinic, denied any involvement in the incident. He claimed that his wife had full control of the clinic, performed the treatments and monitored the patients.

Despite the doctor’s claims that the clinic had certified equipment, the president of the Athens Medical Association, George Patoulis, and the president of the Panhellenic Medical Association, Matina Pagoni, said that the clinic held a license to operate as a pathology clinic, which does not cover treatments such as plasmapheresis. They added that no such equipment was found during a licensing inspection carried out in 2025.
