Despite institutions’ commitments to an ecological transition, the practical application of European environmental rules remains inadequate. This situation shows that the country still has much to do to meet environmental standards.

Researchers in this field are calling for the strengthening of green policies and concrete steps to protect nature, emphasizing the need for an accelerated approach to achieving the defined objectives.

“We have capacity and potential in Kosovo. There are many organizations working on environmental issues, including reducing environmental degradation, and we also have a government that has started to take these issues a little more seriously. Considering this push from the EU, I hope that we are in a period of transition,” said Indira Kartallozi, a researcher in this field.

According to experts, the level of implementation of European legislation on environmental issues is extremely low. They warn that delays in aligning with and concretely implementing environmental standards could negatively affect Kosovo’s integration process toward the European Union.
