After a 12-year campaign, the United States and its coalition partners have officially ended the military operation against ISIS in Iraq.

According to the Pentagon, the withdrawal of forces and equipment from Erbil Air Base has been completed in line with the plan agreed upon by Washington and Baghdad.
The primary responsibility for Iraq’s security and the fight against ISIS remnants now falls to the Iraqi Security Forces and the Peshmerga. The US will continue to provide training and intelligence support.
The Pentagon estimates that ISIS is no longer an organized military threat in Iraq. However, remnants of the group and militias linked to Iran continue to pose challenges to the country’s security and stability.
With the withdrawal complete, the US military mission is giving way to a new security relationship between the United States and Iraq, focused on bilateral cooperation and the fight against terrorism.
