The American administration will immediately reactivate the blockade of Iranian ports in the Strait of Hormuz, according to an announcement by President Donald Trump.
In a post on his Truth Social network, he emphasized that the US will assume the role of security guarantor in this vital maritime corridor. To cover defense and security costs, a 20% levy will be applied to all goods transiting through the strait. The concrete implementation mechanism of this tax remains unclear.

Washington’s reaction came immediately after warnings from Iranian armed forces, which opposed any American involvement in the management of the Strait of Hormuz.
In this climate of heightened tension, US Central Command confirmed the completion of the latest wave of strikes against targets in Iran, in retaliation for Iranian attacks on commercial vessels navigating the strait area.
Meanwhile, Tehran reports that it has attacked American military installations in Jordan, Bahrain and Kuwait, as well as radar equipment on Omani territory. Bahraini authorities have accused Iran of also targeting civilian objectives during these operations.
Navigation flow in the Strait of Hormuz has been significantly affected by these developments. Data from MarineTraffic platform show that only a small number of vessels are currently passing through, with maritime traffic remaining subdued.
