The Democratic Party’s proposal for a territorial map with 100 municipalities was not approved by the parliamentary majority.

The opposition requested that its initiative be reviewed at the same time as the Socialists’ draft, but the parliamentary majority argued that this would delay the process and jeopardize the implementation of the new map in the next local elections.
While the Socialists are proposing to divide the country into 46 municipalities, the Democrats consider the initiative to be motivated by electoral calculations.
Despite the majority’s refusal to review the two initiatives in parallel, the opposition continued to participate in the committee’s proceedings. The Democrats were also present at the hearing, which was attended by representatives of the Prime Minister’s Office, who supported the map with 46 municipalities, as well as representatives of municipal associations.
