A severe weather situation has hit Spain, with heavy rainfall causing flash floods in several areas. Due to the intensity of the rain, Barcelona has been placed under a red alert.

In Barcelona, water has flooded roads, tunnels and sections of the transport network, while several metro stations have also been inundated. This has caused major difficulties for motorists and pedestrians.
The effects have also been felt in air transport. More than 100 flights have been canceled at Barcelona-El Prat Airport, causing delays and chaos for travelers.
Authorities have issued emergency alerts in nine regions of the country. In Catalonia, rainfall could reach up to 180 liters per square meter within three hours.
The worsening weather has particularly affected northeastern and northwestern areas of Spain. A red alert has also been issued in Extremadura.
Faced with the risk of flash floods and traffic disruptions, authorities have urged residents and tourists to exercise extreme caution.
