The operation carried out on Wednesday lasted around 11 hours. Efforts were hampered by rugged terrain, high temperatures and wind, factors that caused hidden hotspots to reignite even after they had been contained.

To prevent the flames from spreading, teams dug hundreds of meters of firebreak trenches. Active hotspots were tackled using backpack pumps and light equipment, as the terrain limited the movement of fire engines.

Employees of the Administration of Protected Areas also took part in the operation, while private companies provided support with equipment and transportation.

The fire on Qukës Mountain has now been brought under control. The fire service is continuing to monitor the area to prevent further flare-ups.

The blaze on Qukës Mountain has remained a challenge for the Prrenjas fire service for more than three weeks.
