Bashkim Murtezi has officially announced that he is stepping down from all party positions and withdrawing from active politics. Until now, he was in charge of the Personnel Commission and was a member of the Central Assembly of the VLEN coalition.

In a reflective letter sent to the coalition’s leaders and members, Murtezi looked back on his five-year journey in politics. His involvement began as the organizational secretary of Alternativa and continued with his leadership of important organizational and personnel processes within VLEN.
According to him, his withdrawal represents the natural conclusion of a mission carried out with responsibility and dedication, as well as an opportunity to make room for new generations and fresh energy in politics.

REFLECTION AFTER A JOURNEY MARKED BY RESPONSIBILITY AND DEDICATION
Dear co-chairmen, respected secretary-general and esteemed vice-chairmen,
I wish to inform you that, as of today, 24.07.2026, I have decided to step down from my responsibilities on the Personnel Commission, from my position as a member of VLEN’s Central Assembly and, at the same time, from my political engagement.
My involvement in politics began five years ago, driven by the sincere conviction that change was possible and that new hope could rise above the injustices of the past. For me, change was not something to be awaited, but a reality that had to be created. I set out on this path believing that every generation has the right to a more dignified and just future, and that each of us bears responsibility for building it. Every day, I have tried to act with fairness, integrity and a clear conscience. Today, with peace of mind and humility, I believe that a large and essential part of this mission has been accomplished.
From the very first day of my political activity, as you all know, I clearly stated that I would neither seek nor accept employment, a post or an executive position. I have regarded politics as a service, not as a career opportunity. The greatness of an ideal is not determined by titles or offices, but by the love, sacrifice and dedication devoted to people and the common cause.
I have always been convinced that a politician’s strength is not measured by the power they possess, but by the humility with which they serve others.
After five years of efforts, challenges, battles and profound memories, I feel that the time has come to close this chapter of my political life. This does not mean abandoning the ideal, but concluding a mission that I accepted and carried out with responsibility and dedication.
However, I have not been alone on this journey. People of faith, heart and dedication have stood by me. I have seen people who believed, hands that worked and hearts that refused to give up. We stood together through late working hours, difficult confrontations and moments of uncertainty, but also shared the joy of the victories we achieved together.
First as the organizational secretary of Alternativa, then as a member of VLEN’s campaign headquarters during the presidential and parliamentary elections, and finally as head of the VLEN coalition’s Personnel Commission, I had the opportunity and privilege to remain close to our people, members and activists. It was there that I understood that the true strength of a political organization is not found in its offices, but in the spirit of the people who keep it alive.
At a time when many predicted our political decline or demise, together with determined people we succeeded in protecting the organization and preserving the spirit that united us. I was part of the initial idea to establish a united opposition, a vision that later materialized with the formation of the VLEN coalition. From the birth of this idea and throughout every stage of the unification process, I contributed through my ideas, work and sense of responsibility.
During negotiations to form the new government, I was among those who assumed responsibility for safeguarding equality and dignity in the representation of Albanians. In every discussion and agreement, we had a clearly defined goal: to fairly secure what belonged to us and to ensure respect for the contribution of citizens, as well as that of our political entities.
As chairman of the VLEN coalition’s Personnel Commission, I acted responsibly and honestly to turn this balance into reality. As a result of this commitment, more than 2,400 people were employed and hundreds were promoted, ensuring fair representation for Albanians and our political entities at all levels of government.
I fully understand that no success can be attributed to one person alone. Every result stems from the work of a team, from trust and from a common objective. For this reason, I share the credit with every fellow activist in VLEN and with all those who stood in the ranks, guided by conviction and dedication.
There is a time to build, a time to confront challenges and a moment to stop and thank God for what has been accomplished with good intentions. But there also comes a time when one must accept that the way should be cleared for someone else. I believe my contribution has completed its cycle, while VLEN’s journey must continue with responsibility and fresh energy.
Above all, I will miss you, VLEN’s dedicated activists, who have been present in every kind of weather, on every road and at every meeting. You who left your families to serve an ideal. You with whom we shared morning coffee, nighttime exhaustion and the emotions of every confrontation. For me, these are not merely memories; they have become part of my soul and will always remain with me.
I am aware that perfection belongs to no one. Decisions may have been made that were not always right, expectations may have remained unfulfilled, or human mistakes may have been made. For every such instance, I humbly and sincerely apologize. Ultimately, being at peace with yourself and respecting the people who accompanied you on your journey are the most precious treasures. We all learn through our mistakes and grow by forgiving.
I express my gratitude to each of you in VLEN for your trust, support and every hand extended to me during difficult days.
I am leaving my positions, but not the love and dedication I have for the ideal that brought us together. Ideals do not depend on titles, because they continue to live in the people who believe in them and in the marks they leave behind. All the challenges, victories and human bonds forged during this journey, whether previously in Alternativa or now in VLEN, will forever remain part of my soul.
I leave with a sense of spiritual fulfillment, and I hope that the successes of Albanians and VLEN will continue, that every objective will be achieved and that the spirit of cooperation will remain intact.
Although I will no longer be physically inside the organization, I will continue to stand by it. I will be ready to raise my voice whenever I see the path straying from our principles, in order to defend the justice, hope and spirit we have created together.
Finally, my message is clear: humanity must be preserved even within politics. The ability to listen to others, respect and trust are worth more than any position or post. Political morality is not an abstract concept, but the compass that should guide every action and decision. The loss of morality also leads to the loss of people’s trust. When politics lacks soul and ideals, all that remains is emptiness and noise.
It is now up to the younger generations and those who come after us to carry this journey forward with idealism, energy and renewed love.
