Beachgoers at Antai beach in France were suddenly faced with a chaotic situation when a calm summer day was interrupted by a storm known as a “galerne”. The phenomenon brought strong winds to the coast and a significant drop in temperature.
Footage from the area shows the moment when atmospheric conditions change, as tourists rush to find shelter and gather their belongings. Towels, umbrellas, surfboards and other objects were lifted into the air by the force of the wind.

According to reports, the temperature dropped by 11 degrees Celsius in just six minutes, as the weather took an abrupt turn.
The “galerne” occurs along the western coasts of France and is characterized by strong northwesterly winds, as well as a sudden drop in temperature. It forms when cold air from the Bay of Biscay collides with warmer air masses over land, producing winds that can reach up to 95 km/h.
Hundreds of tourists were seen hastily gathering their belongings and seeking shelter. Many described what happened as a “surreal” scene.
“It suddenly got dark, filled with clouds and fog,” said a woman.
Another beachgoer described the event as “something we had never seen before”.
