Urquiza: Macedonia has an important role as an Interpol partner in tackling organized crime

Interpol Secretary General Valdecy Urquiza, during today’s visit to the country, said that Macedonia is taking international police cooperation seriously and is an important partner for the organization.

In his address to cadets and leaders of the Interior Ministry, Urquiza stressed that the Interior Ministry’s Training Center plays an important role in preparing future police officers.

“Education and continuous training will play a key role in your future as police officers. Crime is becoming increasingly complex, and the way police are trained and educated will need to evolve in line with new threats. Technology is constantly advancing, creating new opportunities for criminals compared with the time when I began my police career,” Urquiza said.

He pointed out that technological developments and the increasingly international scope of criminal activities are making crime more complicated, and that, according to him, strong international cooperation remains essential.

“You will face different languages, different legal systems and different ways of working. I am convinced that in those circumstances you will come to know Interpol as a willing and reliable partner in your fight. From the cooperation I have seen at your border with Albania, as well as from the joint activities with the Serbian authorities, I see that Macedonia is taking international police cooperation seriously. This is precisely what makes Interpol increasingly important in the modern fight against organized crime,” Urquiza stressed.
