In a Facebook post, she said she had attended the ceremony marking the change of command of KFOR, where Major General Özkan Ulutaş officially handed over his duties to Major General Roberto Vergori.
“The partnership with NATO remains a pillar of Kosovo’s security and of our Euro-Atlantic path,” Haxhiu wrote.
She thanked Major General Ulutaş for his fruitful cooperation with Kosovo’s authorities during his two mandates, noting that the Kosovo Police had assumed responsibility for ensuring security in areas where, for nearly 30 years, only KFOR had been present. According to her, this step demonstrates the increased trust in local institutions and the stability achieved in Kosovo.
Haxhiu wished Major General Vergori success in his new position and welcomed him to Kosovo.
“I also thank Turkey and Italy, which over the years have made an important contribution to the KFOR mission,” she added.
