The decision was made public on Friday through a post by the US president on the social media platform Truth Social.
Trump announced that the measure would take effect immediately and suggested that other media outlets could also be included in the future. He did not clarify whether the ban was related to the withdrawal of press credentials, attendance at briefings or presence at White House events, nor did he provide details on how it would be implemented.
By that point, CNN, MS NOW, Politico and the National Press Club had not publicly reacted to the announcement. Reuters reported that the development was part of repeated clashes between Trump and media outlets the president views as opposed to his administration.
The decision has heightened concerns about the relationship between the US administration and media organizations, particularly regarding journalists’ access to the White House. The Associated Press described it as another episode in Trump’s strained relationship with the media.
