The Basic Court in Pristina, specifically its Serious Crimes Department, has rejected the Prosecution’s request to order pretrial detention for five officials accused of abuse of office. The defendants, G.Z., A.G., L.M., D.G. and E.A., who are suspected of acting together to appropriate a high-value property, will be subject to less restrictive security measures.

Instead of detention, the court imposed a restraining order barring them from approaching a specified location. Under the ruling, the five defendants are prohibited from coming within 200 meters of the Municipality of Fushë Kosovë building. The measure will remain in force for one month, beginning on September 8, 2026, and ending on October 8, 2026.
The court also ordered the same individuals to report regularly to the police station, an obligation that will likewise remain in effect for one month. The court’s announcement states that if these alternative measures are violated, they will immediately be replaced with the more severe measure of pretrial detention. In issuing the ruling, the judicial panel found that the uninterrupted conduct of the criminal proceedings could be ensured without detaining the defendants.
Parties who disagree with the ruling have the right to appeal to the Court of Appeals through the Basic Court in Pristina.
